BY THE NUMBERS

There is some sort of joy in numbers and models, as they do make life easier and more rewarding. We do love numbers, models and structures. Our intention is to share findings from projects, as well as other nuggets across the world; linked to what is happening around you.

international WAFFLE DAY

International Waffle Day

The International Waffle Day on March 25 celebrates waffles, the history, and a surprising religious holiday. It was originally celebrated in Sweden, due to a lingual connection between ‘Vårfrudagen’ (Our Lady Day - Virgin Mary’s conception), and ‘Våffeldagen’ (The Day of the Waffle). Waffles have been around for a long time. Culinary historians believe waffles can be traced back to ancient Greece, but the word ‘waffle’ first appears in the English language in 1725.

halloween

Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31.

The tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the US, about 65% will celebrate the festival in 2021, spending about $ 102 each. The amount is somewhat less than what is spent per person in Norway (USD 156), but where only 24% plans to take part in it. Americans are projected to spend a record $10.14 billion on Halloween in 2021.

It wasn't until the 1950s that trick-or-treating gained popularity in the U.S. Following the Great Depression and World War II, the suburbs were booming, and people were looking for excuses to have fun and get to know their neighbors. In modern days, 25% of all sweets in the US are sold for Halloween.

the norwegian flag

200 years with the Norwegian flag

The current flag of Norway was designed in 1821 by Fredrik Meltzer, a member of the parliament. It was adopted by both chambers of the parliament on 11 May and 16 May, respectively. However, the king refused to sign the flag law, as Norway was under Swedish rule. It was not until 1899 Norway was allowed to use the flag. Post the disolvement of the union in 1905, it became the official flag.

UP FOR A SWEET TREAT

Try our Nuggets - 1.jpg

You are worth a godly treat!

Ancient Egyptians were the first to enjoy a gooey treat now called marshmallow as early as 2000 BC. The treat was considered very special and it was reserved for gods and royalty. Marshmallow was made from the mallow plant (Athaea officinalis) that grows wild in marshes.

Springy, sweet, and puffed full of air, marshmallows are campfire-friendly; so much that every second bite is eventually toasted over fire during summers. In the winter; a cup of hot chocolate and marshmallows make up a perfect celebration to life.

The USA is by far the biggest country, followed by Germany and UK.

world water day

World Water Day.jpg

World Water Day became a UN observance day in 1993. It seeks to focus attention on the global water crisis. On 22 March every year, people and organizations mark World Water Day by taking action to tackle the water crisis.

World Water Day 2021 will focus on the theme, 'Valuing Water'. This focus will extend beyond issues of pricing to include the environmental, social, and cultural value people place on water.

Estimates vary, but, on average, each person uses about 320-400 liters of water per day, for indoor home uses. Are you surprised that the largest use of household water is to flush the toilet, and after that, to take showers and baths?

Today, 2.2 billion people use a source of drinking water contaminated with faeces, putting them at risk of contracting cholera, dysentery, typhoid and polio.

gen c and grocery shopping

Post 12 - Shopping.png

Turns out younger generations prefer to shop for groceries in the store versus shopping online. Yes, both Gen Z and millennials shop online, but when it comes to grocery shopping there is an exception.

The Connecticut based branding firm, The Family room, did a survey a few years back about how parents include their children in a wide range of buying decisions; including where to eat, where to shop and where to go for vacation. Overall, 64 per cent of the parents said they make the final decision, but seeks kids’ input. The kids are consulted so much that the researchers called their report ’Generation Collaboration’, or Gen C.

42% said they discuss decisions with kids and 27% said they provide kids with options, and then let them decide. Kids were least involved with car purchase.

Kids were most involved in dinner purchase; hence making the brick & mortar more cenceptual is key.

The global food and grocery retail market size was valued at USD 11.7 trillion in 2019 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.0% from 2020 to 2027.

100 is the new 80

Good News & Centenarians Rock!
People are living longer, and 100 is the new 80.

In 1990, the UN predicted the increase in lifespan would start to plateau, as the assumption was that human life was simply programmed to stop after a certain period; there was a ceiling for human existence, and we had just about hit it. In 1990 there were only 95 thousand centenarians globally.

This year, the UN expect the number of centenarians to rise to approximately 573,000 worldwide. This is further predicted to grow to 1.5 million in 2030 and 3.7 million in 2050. The ceiling is no longer there. Today we celebrate Europe's oldest person, French nun Sister Andre, who is celebrating her 117th birthday. Congratulations & Sat Sri Akal!

passion for art?

Post 11 - Art.jpg

The global art market in 2018 reached $67.4 billion. The world's most expensive painting ever to be sold at auction is Leonardo da Vinci's Salvator Mundi - it was sold for $450.3 million on November 15, 2017 at Christie's.

There is an increasing amount of scientific evidence that proves art enhances brain function, and can change a person's outlook and the way they experience the world.

The vast majority of prospects buy based on emotion, not logic. They decide to buy because it “feels right,” then use logic to justify the decision to themselves. So the better you are at making an emotional connection between the prospect and whatever you're selling, the easier you'll find it to close sales.

Post 10 - Cat Man LP.jpg

Category Management is all about better selling and growing your franchise - in the way it matters to you.

Did you know that a digital recording is not capturing the complete sound wave? That is one of the reasons why the vinyl album is the comeback kid of the digital age. In the US it has grown for 15 consecutive years, and that it sold 27.5 million albums in 2020, and accounted for 27% of all album sales. From a Cat Man perspective, we trust this is good for the bottom line, and that it creates a sustainable role in the sound industry. We hope however, that we don't need to dig up our old VHS tapes for the future of video consumption.

are you blinking or winking?

Post 7 - Shopping.png

Researchers from Japan’s Osaka University have concluded that we spend about 10 per cent of our waking hours with our eyes shut. In other words, your brain is offline 10% of the time.

If you are awake for 15 hours a day, your brain is taking a combined 1.5 hours of power naps. An one hour shopping trip then turns into a six minute zombie walk. So, grabbing the correct attention through ‘awakened execution’ is important to succeed.

In average, each and one of us blink about 30 times per minute, but it goes as low as 14 and peaks at 45 depending on your location and stress mode in the store. Be however careful with one-eyed-blinking, as it can be mistaken for winking, which gives a completely different signal. On that note, women blink about 32% more often than men.

are you staying ahead?

Post 6 - Research 2.jpg

Nine out of every 10 Fortune 500 companies in 1955 were gone in 2020. You might be big today, but gone tomorrow; unless you develop and stay ahead. Fifty years ago, the life expectancy of a firm in the Fortune 500 list was 33 years. Today, it’s less than 15 years - and declining.

The 500 that made this year’s list represent two-thirds of the U.S. economy, with $14.2 trillion in revenue. Half of them will be out of the list in 2030, replaced by other companies that have researched and innovated better - to make old champions obsolete and outdated. There is perhaps after all something about Schumpeter’s theory of creative destruction.

Having a modular approach to your business, will enable you to grow faster, easier, and more affordable. Stray Partners is a growth-engine that masters the ‘Modular Business Building Technique’.

are you standing out?

Post 4 - Bilboard.jpg

People are less and less aware of what they actually see. An average person is bombared with 30,000 marketing messages in a day, but hardly anyone is able to recall more than one.

An ‘experiment was conducted In London; where people were asked to wear Eye Contact Goggles for 90 minutes. Everything that was seen and observed was captured on film. Long story short: Over a 90 minute period, people were exposed to 250 different advertising messages, featuring more than 100 different A-brands in 70 different formats. The experiment concluded with that humans are able to recall only one in 250 messages they are exposed to. It is an art to stand out, to be remeberd and to be bought. Stray Partners is a world leading company within Category Management; be it to increasing share or to expand the total pie - the sustainable way.

WORKING FROM HOME?

Transparent office.jpg

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we think about working from home. But the situation varies widely depending on a country’s income level and type of economy, as well as availability of critical infrastructure. Just think about internet access: In high-income countries, it’s 1 in 3 jobs that can be done from home while in low-income countries it’s only 1 in 26 jobs.

Does digital interaction influence health? Studies show that face to face interaction beats the digital interaction when it comes to ROH (Return on Health) and ROI (Return on Investment). In-person interaction bolsters the immune system, and sends feel good hormones through blood streams and to the brain - it simply helps us to live longer and perform better. Stress is reduced and trust is increased. Body pain drops and pleasures increases. Coming to office should be a medicine without negative side effects.

THE INTERNET

Launch of web site.jpg

E-commerce sales is expected to reach US$4.9 trillion worth of sales in 2021.

Munnbind.png

The global market for disposable masks is projected to accelerate at a CAGR of 5.4% to reach US$28.8 billion by the year 2027. The biggest growth spikes are expected in the years 2020 and 2021 at 396.6% and 18. 2% CAGR respectively.

Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, China held a 50% share of the global surgical masks production, manufacturing close to 20 million face masks daily and Taiwan accounts for 20% of the global face masks supply. Other major countries with considerable PPE manufacturing capacity include Thailand, Mexico, Malaysia, South Korea, Japan, India, the US, and some EU countries. Subsequent to the COVID-19 outbreak, China enhanced its masks production over five-fold, with a daily production of 110 million units.
